For those with a standard D fit, you’re going to love the precise locked-down fit.

I’d hesitate to recommend this shoe for those of you with wide feet. Nike uses 4 flywire cables on each side to lock each foot down and provide amazing lock down for faster paced running. The low volume midfoot of the Pegasus 36 Trail is on the narrow side, and provides a very secure and snug fit. I have experience no heel slip or blistering with the Pegasus 36 Trail, and I’ve hit more than a few 3000ft+ climbs in warm weather. The heel is well padded and has a rigid heel counter that keeps my foot locked down on off kilter trails. In the heel, the Pegasus 36 Trail has a unique shape, with a high elf like shoe horn and a narrow fit. The size 11.5 is true to size for me, and is the shoe size I wear for the vast majority of my trail running shoes, including the Nike Wildhorse 5. My size 11.5 Pegasus 36 Trails weigh in at a lightweight 10.95 oz per shoe. The Pegasus 36 Trail has been one of my most used shoes since it’s release over the summer, and I will share my thoughts in this review having enjoyed them for more than 100 miles of mixed trail use.īuy on Amazon Buy on Backcountry Buy on Zappos Upper The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Trail is built on the same platform as the road version, but has a new air mesh upper, durable skins in high wear areas, separate Zoom Air units in the heel and forefoot for stability, and enlarged lugs for trail use.

The Terra Kiger has a full redesign for version 5, the Wildhorse has a new upper for version 5 (review coming soon), and the Nike Pegasus 36 road shoe received a brand new trail counterpart that will be the focus of this review. The extra rubber on the Pegasus 39 outsole makes it more durable than the outsole of the Miler 2.After a long spell without any new offerings, Nike updated their trail shoe lineup for 2019 in a big way. There is only a small section under the centre of the heel not covered by rubber. The Pegasus 39 uses harder, carbon rubber on its lateral rails and blown rubber on the main section. The outsole of the Miler 2 has 5 separate areas covered by soft, blown rubber and a large section under the heel and midfoot with exposed midsole foam. In the Miler 2, there is no Zoom Bag, so the single density midsole results in smooth ride transitions. When loading the forefoot of the Pegasus 39, the 10mm thick Zoom Air Bag can be felt underfoot so it prevents ride transitions from being smooth. The Pegasus 39 has a firm midsole with no lean bias which also makes it very stable but less stable than the Miler 2 because in the Miler 2 your foot sinks down and is cupped by the midsole. The Miler 2’s midsole flares out at the bottom which creates a large, stable base. You might notice the Zoom Air bag in the Pegasus more over time when the foam eventually flattens. You can expect to get very high mileage out of both shoes as they both have React midsoles which don’t lose much cushioning over the life of the shoe. The Miler 2’s max-cushioned midsole offers plenty of protection without getting mushy. The soft ride of the Miler 2 is best suited to long, slow runs. The thick Zoom Air bag provides a springy toe-off needed when going fast. The medium-firm ride of the Pegasus 39 makes it more suited to shorter, tempo runs than the Miler 2. Like the Infinity Run, the Miler 2 uses a lower density React foam which is much softer than the React used in the Pegasus 39.

Both shoes have full React midsoles but the main difference is that the Pegasus 39 has an extra top-loaded Zoom Air unit in its forefoot for added responsiveness and one in its heel for extra cushioning.
